About Us

Over 35 years ago, I watched my late great uncle, Ed Fowlower, solve logic puzzles in a magazine, specifically a long-division cryptarithm. Although he relied on algebra, he taught me a grid-based approach coupled with systematic elimination.

Over the years, my fascination with cryptarithms only deepened. However, I noticed that most puzzle magazines featured very few, so I began creating my own. I would set them aside until I had forgotten the solutions, then solve them anew.

Eventually, I decided to automate this process by designing a program capable of generating cryptarithms, ensuring I would never run out of new puzzles—and could share them with others. This idea gave rise to cryptarithms.org.
